Diesel Particulate Filter Removal
What is a DPF? The correct term is 'Diesel Particulate Filter'. Dpf's are added to many diesel vehicles post 2005. With certain manufacturers such as Peugeot & Citroen, this may even be as early as 2001.In basic terms, the DPf is a soot collector which removes the soot from the exhaust gases from a diesel vehicle. It is a filter system which acts in some ways similar to the catalytic converters on all modern vehicles. |

But why would you remove this unit?
As time goes on, and your vehicle is used more & more, the DPF unit will get full or clogged. Common sense will tell you that any item that is placed as a inline exhaust component can cause some serious problems if this restriction becomes too great. This is not something that will happen overnight or even within a few months, but one thing is assured, it will happen!
What happens next ?
Most vehicles can be regenerated by simply taking the car for a long drive at a higher constant speed, nice and easy. Other units can be cleaned by using chemicals that flush away and rejuvenate the DPF for a little while longer. Both of the methods will not stop the DPF from failing
at some point in its lifetime.
My DPF warning lights has come on. What can i do?
There are a few stages on when your dpf warning light might appear. The most common time is about 50% of the life. At this stage a passive regeneration would do the trick, which is the highlighted method above. An acctive regeneration is when the vehicles ecu takes charge of the process by increasing the exhaust temp to start a regeneration cycle.
Would I need to get a new diesel particulate filter fitted?
Because more and more filters are now starting to fail, more companies are offering replacement DPF units. Its no longer a case of going to the main dealer to have this done. The pro's of this may be that you are getting a new DPF unit at a cheaper price. The con's would be that alot of after market parts do not fit correctyl and may be made out of a lower grade material. The question then is ' Will this now solve the problem ?' For a period of time if will do the trick, but these are not cheap methods by no means, so the underlying problems will still be an issue in the future.
![]() | What can you guys offer me? What we can do is eliminate the DPF alltogether. That's correct, we remove the DPF unit from the vehicle. This is a two stage process. Stage one is to remove the physcial unit from the vehicle and put a bypass unit to go in its place. The second phase is to modify the vehicles ECU so that it does not only not look for the DPF element, but also removes the data that goes with it. No more expensive replacements or regenerations needed. Simple ! |
